Description

Chai is a yellow-ringed Umbreon who work as a Floor Waiter at Café Plaisir. Quiet, sullen and as sharp as he is prickly, many find the Umbreon unpleasant and unapproachable. Originally assigned to the Morning Shift as he wasn't expected to last long, Chai has grown both physically and a a professional Waiter at Café Plaisir.

He is attractive and sexually gifted, highly flexible in the bedroom and boasts great endurance. At first glance it would be diffcult to see why he doesn't get a lot of business. But then you try talking to him and it becomes very obvious. Chai is rude, judgemental and impatient, owing largely to a troubled background beginning with a difficult start in life as a stray Eevee on the streets of America, which he ultimately survived with a combination of street prostitution and by later becoming part of a dangerous gang known as the Dark Strays.

He escaped his former life and came to Café Plaisir to find a new start. A start which has proven more difficult than he first imagined. But thanks in part to Mister Pouncer, the Morning Shift Manager who wouldn't give up on him as long as he was willing to keep trying, the influence of a very small number of friends (who he's only now learning to appreciate) and in no small part his own stubborness, he is gradually turning his life around and learning to become a better person.

He is still a pain in the ass.

Storyline Summary

First Appearance

Chai first appears in Chapter 2 of October's Jaunt. A small and terse Umbreon, he is the only other Floor Waiter on the Morning Shift and has next to no professional or personal life before the tumbling fireball of October comes crashing through. Chai takes quickly to his new co-worker and the two quickly become fast friends and firm fuckbuddies (with the Umbreon firmly in the bratty submissive role.) When Chai loses his room due to underperformance, October offers him a space on his bed. Though it's not long before the two difficult personalities start to conflict and the newfound friendship is quickly threatened...

Further Appearances

Chai is taken along on the Café Plaisir Road Trip less as an elite member of staff and more as reclaimation project by Firenze. He quickly proves himself an essential member of the team, however, due in no small part with his familiarity with the American Poemon underworld in general and the Dark Strays gang in particular, who as a gang of Dark-typ Pokemon immune to the psychic type scrying and crime predictors now employed by the FBI in the post-Liberation USA, have risen to increasing prominence.

Described by Eeveelution Breeding Specialist 'Bob' as a mongrel-mix of Kanto Regular and Thompson's Warhound (but lacking the bone plates,) his genes manifested as a major growth spurt during the Road Trip, going from distinctly below average sized for his species to distinctly above.

He gets involved in fights often, where he relies upon his, speed, stealth and intimate knowledge of dirty fighting tactics. He has no idea how to do a Shadow Ball, but he can cripple even a large opponent quickly by poking sharp claws where it hurts or even cripples them the most.

Current State

Chai is now back at Café Plaisir and working on the Swing Shift during busy times, where his talents in quick and dirty sex can be maximised and his trait of offending customers easily in casual conversation can be minimised. He is a main character in Year of October's where he is currently aggressively renegotiating his relationship with October...

Becoming even more of a pain in the ass.
