Description

Dmitri is the kindest man who could probably kill you. A former member of Spetsnaz, and now a legendary secret agent, Dmitri takes on missions with his partner Svetlana to protect the safety of the world. As his staunch morals are in sharp contrast to his deadly proficiencies, Dmitri only picks up a weapon when he has to - but when he does, one had better pray he doesn't have the chance to use it.

Though he might be a real-life John Wick, Dmitri is at his best when he's caring for others. Before he developed his skills or his reputation, he was once a lonely, scared little boy who wanted nothing more than to protect the people around him - and he's been obsessively doing that ever since. Nowadays, with his partner Svetlana struggling mentally, and the young, kindhearted Sunflower in their care, Dmitri has found himself at the head of an unlikely family unit. They're lying low, occasionally facing threats while traveling across America. Though he's happier than he's ever been, Dmitri dreams of spending peaceful days like this forever.

History

Early Life

Dmitri was born to a middle-class family in St. Petersburg. A naturally kindhearted boy, he was bullied relentlessly because of his tendency to put himself in the middle of conflicts to try and resolve them. Dmitri truly just loved seeing others happy, and couldn't help empathizing whenever he saw them feeling down. He also had a passionate sense of justice that refused to be ignored, even though his weakness and clumsiness often made him the butt of the joke. He did poorly in school, and, at his family's request, joined the military instead of attending post-secondary education. As a bright, cheery young Sentret, he took to his new role with gusto. He was paired with a trainer, befriended him, and was sent alongside him to the Siberian border.

Spetsnaz

Dmitri's trainer was an up-and-coming officer who, after a year's service, was transferred into Spetsnaz and took Dmitri along with him. He took care of Dmitri and taught him how to fight, as well as helping cement Dmitri's view of the world - that it was right to stand up for others, and that all good things needed to be fought for. Dmitri's trainer was a model soldier, and Dmitri wanted to follow in his footsteps.

Tragedy struck when Dmitri's trainer was killed in a border skirmish. Dmitri was traumatized, and left with a strong case of survivor's guilt, blaming himself for his trainer's death. He believed that if he'd been stronger, or had been able to protect his trainer, the man would have survived. The tiny little Sentret, who no one took seriously, now had a mission. He buried his feelings and began training to get stronger, following a rigorous regimen until his body gave out. He spent every waking minute trying to improve himself. During his obsessive training, he met Major Igor Jacobi, who took a liking to him and later became a lifelong friend.

Dmitri power-leveled his way into evolving, and kept training from there. Instead of training like a Pokemon, he had trained like a human, adapting a more humanoid appearance with tight-packed muscles from his continuous efforts. He learned how to use weapons, particularly semi-automatics, and developed a strategy of getting in and getting out as fast as he possibly could. Pokemon, with their special abilities, are a chaotic mismash of powers that work well against one another - but humans and Pokemon alike are still vulnerable to getting shot. With a combination of Agility, the Russian martial art Systema, and machine guns, Dmitri found himself able to drop into a combat zone and take out multiple enemies in the blink of an eye. With further practice, these skills turned out to be devastating on the battlefield.

After some impressive performances in combat, Dmitri was nicknamed "The Deathless-" both after the mythological figure, and because the vengeful, dedicated Furret would not die. He developed a reputation for being kind to his friends and devastating to his enemies, and it didn't take long for word to get around. Jacobi felt Dmitri's talents would be put to better use with him, at the SVR- a position which Dmitri eagerly accepted.

Secret Agent

Joining Russia's foreign intelligence service sent Dmitri on the greatest journey of his life. Away from the front lines, he was paired with the beautiful and deadly Svetlana, a Skuntank fifteen years his senior. Svetlana was brilliant, cold and calculating... but also emotionally inept and vulnerable, something that Dmitri picked up on. Dmitri befriended her and encouraged her to get in touch with her emotions, which backfired when Svetlana had a shotgun wedding with someone she wasn't deeply in love with. Years later, Svetlana turned out to be a terrible, even abusive parent, but Dmitri still stuck by her, and helped care for her son Thomas whenever he could. This continued when Svetlana began bringing Thomas out on missions, and Dmitri was often left to entertain him while she was away. Dmitri befriended his partner's young son, and taught him how to fight.

Over this whole period of time, Dmitri continued taking on covert missions for the SVR. He traveled the world and fought against terrorists, drug cartels and even religious zealots, doing whatever he could to protect his home and country. Though he racked up his achievements, Dmitri never truly forgave himself for the loss of his trainer, believing that he needed to keep improving himself at all costs. At some point down the line, Dmitri had tied his self-worth to his desire to help others, to be useful to them, and to protect them. Later on, he realized it was this state of mind that had prevented him from standing up to Svetlana about how she treated Thomas.

Journey to America

After Thomas broke Svetlana's custody and left for America, Dmitri was back where he'd started - going on high-stakes missions with his increasingly unstable partner. Dmitri threw himself into his work, spending another few years with the SVR, before taking on a mission with Svetlana that changed everything. They were sent to Louisiana to investigate a portal to Ultra Space that had opened there, and once they arrived, Svetlana passed through the portal and entered Ultra Space. Svetlana was nearly driven mad by the experience, and she had a psychotic breakdown, forcing Dmitri to clean up after her. Dmitri was sent across America, locating Ultra Beasts that a hallucinating Svetlana had dropped on trains. He ran into Eclipse on one of these trains and was forced to fight him to try and protect Svetlana. Returning to Louisiana, Dmitri found a delirious Svetlana dropping in and out of consciousness. He brought her to a safe house and tried to nurse her back to health.

With a drunk, depressed, and often mentally unstable partner to care for, Dmitri started reflecting on his own life. He realized that he needed to forgive himself and to give up his obsessions, and that his own self-worth wasn't defined on being useful to others. He could absolutely be there for others, but he didn't need to rescue them. All he could do was lend a hand when they needed it, which was exactly what he planned to do with Svetlana. Though some days were harder than others, it worked - and slowly but surely, the Furret found himself growing more stable as well.

Svetlana had gained a new ability from her time spent in Ultra Space, precognitive visions which neither she or Dmitri could properly make sense of. When Svetlana made an effort to change herself for the better, Dmitri started trusting her and her visions - and those visions consistently got them where they needed to be. These visions led them to the Mojave Desert, where they came into conflict with an extremist group called Team Samuel. In the violent skirmish that ensued, the Mojave Registeel resurrected and Dmitri was forced to kill many of Team Samuel's men, but in the process, he rescued a young Excadrill named Sunflower and a Morelull named Evra Frost. Sunflower had been raised by a Team Samuel enforcer, and had never had a family before - something that Svetlana and Dmitri both truly needed.

Ever since then, Dmitri has been leading his newfound family across rural America, tracking Team Samuel's movements and trying to fit the pieces of a massive jigsaw puzzle together. He's still on active duty for the SVR, providing service to his country and acting as their legendary agent... but, at the same time, he finally gets to relax and let his kind nature shine through. Although he still wants to reconcile with Thomas, Dmitri is getting closer to forgiving himself and acknowledging that he is just as valuable as the people he tries to protect. Slowly but surely, he's getting there.
