Description

William 'Karma' Blake is a scruffy-furred Zangoose and the secondary protagonist of Coda's stories in the Cafe Plaisir universe.

Bright, cheery and outspoken, Karma isn't one to beat around the bush- he always cuts right to the chase. He's a bubbly extrovert who flourishes in social situations, easily making friends and cherishing the connections he already has. He's the life of the party. He's a bisexual switch. He's intelligent, kind, and well-adjusted, and he's always there to cheer his friends up when they're feeling down. To many people, Karma seems like he'd be perfect! If only the Zangoose wasn't hiding a dirty little secret that was nastier than any of his coworkers at Plaisir.

Yes, Karma is a closeted murderer. He's a vigilante killer who inflicts his own form of justice on whoever he considers 'irredeemable', people who can't be touched by the law but still bring harm to others. Unlike most serial killers, Karma doesn't go looking for potential targets, and only deems it necessary when the person can't be easily arrested. In his own words, he only kills when he has to "...fight for my life... or someone else's."

An alumnus of the Caramel Carnivale (like his rival Thomas), Karma recently transferred to Plaisir and has been settling in well ever since. He's become friends with Chai and October, accepted into their social circle, as well as hitting it off with Rain Flower, Colin and Christoph. He has a good relationship with Firenze and a similar love for the finer things in life, but he's invoked the ire of Eclipse as he poses a potential threat to Plaisir's security. Karma's trying to be calmer and change his life for the better, but it's a process! Hopefully he won't have to stab too many people on the way there.

Sexuality

Karma is an eager, top-leaning switch who dishes it out as well as he can take it! He loves turning the tables and topping people with traditionally dominant personalities, and at the same time, he's more than happy to spread his legs and lift his tail for friends in need of stress relief. Karma's sexual desires are pretty simple. He wants to get off, and he doesn't care if that comes from having a cock up his ass or having his hips slam against a warm, tight hole. He likes bringing pleasure to his partners and cumming his brains out! That's really all there is to it. His sweet demeanor and brash nature means that he asks people what they want, and then gives it to them, for hours on end. When he's feeling particularly slutty, he'll ask to have a train run on him, taking as many loads as possible while jacking dicks and making sure his friends blow out his rear. He loves sex - in fact, he can't get enough of it.

History

Origins

Karma was born to loving parents in rural Louisiana. Named after William Blake, the painter, Karma was encouraged by his parents to express himself and to fight for himself and others. Developing a naturally happy, cheerful demeanor, he had no trouble making friends and was generally accepted by his community in the sleepy town of Marksville. The only thing he had trouble with was deciding a career path. Karma wanted to help others, but wasn't sure what to do with himself - until a tragic incident in his sophomore year turned his world upside down. A friend of Karma's was raped by an up-and-coming politician, and the incident was covered up, even though the victim's family tried to pursue the proper legal channels. Karma's friend never recovered. Years later, when Karma found himself alone with the politician, his blood boiled over and he tore the man's throat out.

Karma cleaned the crime scene, smashed a window and stole money from the politician's wallet, trying to make it look like a robbery gone wrong. The Marksville police department never properly followed up on the incident, letting Karma off scot-free, aside from a heavy heart and a feeling that something was truly wrong with him. He sought out professional help, hiring a therapist and explaining his behavior as best he could without admitting to the crime. The therapist (and later psychiatrists) were unable to diagnose Karma with any particular mental disorder, but they identified his mood swings and suggested he take antipsychotics to remedy them.

If Karma's parents found out what he had done, they never mentioned it. It wouldn't have been hard for them to put two and two together. Karma's father, a lawyer, became protective of his son at that point forward - but at the same time, Karma believed that he needed to be independent from his family. This desire for independence is what led him to seek employment at the Caramel Carnivale, a new nightclub at the outskirts of Marksville's city limits.

Caramel Carnivale

Back in Marksville, Karma had previously met the Carnivale's owner, Bae, an eccentric Simipour who took an immediate liking to him. When Karma came to the Carnivale looking for work, Bae hired him on the spot - and then confronted him about the politician's murder. A horrified Karma was forced to admit to it, only to learn that Bae encouraged the behavior and had another killer on staff. Bae offered Karma shelter and protection, and asked him to be part of an informal, vigilante team that protected Marksville from outside threats (like the Dark Strays).

Karma was then introduced to the hulking Zoroark TM, the Carnivale's night manager and the other killer on staff. TM, short for both his alias 'Toymaker' and his real name, 'Tiberius Masters', was a Zodiac-style killer in the Nineties before befriending Bae and settling down at the Carnivale. The excitable Karma and the perpetually-tired TM hit it off very well, becoming close friends and even dating for a while before an amicable split.

While working as a waiter and part-time dancer for the Carnivale, Karma killed several suspected rapists and multiple gangsters, the latter associated with the Dark Strays and the Sigilyph Cartel. As a failsafe, Karma blunted his own claws and replaced them with a pair of concealed hunting knives, preferring to use those for the kill because of the lack of DNA evidence. Bae taught him to pole dance and TM taught him how to dispose of bodies; for Karma, it was all smooth sailing at the Carnivale. He even started dating again, going out with the jumpy Thomas before the Stunky dumped him, kickstarting their eventual rivalry.

Entering Plaisir

After the Ultra Space portal opened above the Carnivale, Bae suggested that some of his senior staff transfer to other establishments so that they wouldn't have to deal with the ongoing alien situation and media involvement. At Bae's request, Karma transferred to Cafe Plaisir, where he met with Firenze and was promptly hired. Karma's cheerfulness and kindhearted personality made him an immediate hit with Plaisir's customers, but he was treated very differently by the staff.

Karma was met with curiosity, if not suspicion, by his new coworkers - mainly because Thomas had caused such a stir when he transferred from Plaisir. Chai volunteered to room with Karma while he got settled in, and the pair quickly hit it off, spurred by their mutual love of weed and casual sex. Karma then ran into Thomas, who threatened him not to cause problems at Plaisir - warning him not to kill anyone without accusing him directly. Unfortunately, Deacon, a sleazy Morgrem ex-Dark Stray (and associate of Chai's) was visiting Plaisir at that time. At night, in the woods behind Plaisir, Deacon used Charm to hypnotize Christoph, and tried to abduct him in front of Chai. Deacon threatened to sell Chris into sex slavery, and even got one up on Chai in combat - before Karma came up from behind Deacon and cut his throat, killing him.

Karma told a horrified Chai everything, and then they hatched a plan - dispose of Deacon's body, then use Cara to erase and rewrite Chris' recent memory. The plan went off without a hitch, but the next day, Thomas found out and attacked Karma in the middle of the Main Bar. Their fight was broken up by Eclipse, who then gave Karma a stern warning not to disturb Plaisir's peace. Feeling badly about how everything had played out, Karma came to a shaky reconciliation with Thomas, and decided to change his behavior from that point on - resolving to hold himself back when potential threats reared their ugly heads. He defended Plaisir bravely against a new Dark Stray attack, and finally settled into his new home with newfound friends.

Life at Plaisir

Despite settling in so well, Karma finds himself drawn into Plaisir's hectic side more often than not. He frequently clashes with Thomas Whitaker, their rivalry altering between friendly and venomous (depending on what one has done to piss the other off), and he's become a member of October and Chai's friend group, often getting roped into their adventures and threesomes. He's helped rescue his former boss Bae from El Paso, solved a mystery involving possessed swords, and developed a crush on beautiful, brilliant Bibarel Nina after saving her from some street thugs. He's become good friends with his adorable, accident-prone gym buddy Ari, as well as the sultry, mysterious Ruko. Can he juggle all these things and keep his murderous proclivities a secret? Well, he's sure gonna try!
