Description

A young trainer-in-name-only, Mary is a rather nondescript caucasian teenager with reddish-brown hair, brown eyes, and no shortage of Freckles. She possesses a lean strength from years of manhandling and shearing Mareep, as well as general farm work and chores. When not around her Pokémon, Mary is said to look four years older. When she is with her Pokemon, the tension fades from her face, and she almost looks her age again. Almost. She wears a folding compass inscribed with protective symbols around her neck; a present from Hastur.

Biography

Long ago, a farmgirl left her home in the highlands eager to see the world, catch Pokémon and fight epic battles in grand tournaments. She had her closest friend and starter by her side, and a world of possibilities open to her. Two days later, a filthy tear-streaked trainer stumbled into a Pokecenter carrying a wounded Linoone. She offered no explanation for what happened, and left the next day. Three weeks later, a determined young woman entered her first gym with only a Mimikyu in a strange costume and blind badger. Two years later, Mary stumbled blindly out of a rip in spacetime, at once a few steps and an eternity away from her home in Johto. Lost, but not alone, she began her search for a refuge for her and her Pokémon. She found it in Plaisir.

Personality

Mary is less a stressed out trainer and more a conglomeration of stress and guilt in the shape of a human driven by raw will. For reasons only Cinnamon understands, she has dedicated her life to the health and safety of any Pokémon she deems in need of her care, which currently means of Cinnamon, Sugar, Pepper, Hastur, and Truffles. She will protect them at any cost, and is constantly looking for ways to enrich their lives. Rarely does she think of herself.

This overwhelming love for her Pokémon combined with the instinctual need to protect them has created a creature with a very tough and often prickly exterior hiding a vulnerable core. Should anyone catch her alone, they will find her staring - if not crying - into the folding compass around her neck. Then she'll notice you, and glare at you silently until you go away.

Relationships

Mary loves all her Pokémon, even Truffles, but reserves a special place in her heart for Cinnamon, her oldest and most loyal friend. But while her Pokémon are indisputably her greatest joy in life, they are also the source of her stress. For her, every race Cinnamon and Sugar enter is a new opportunity for a broken neck, to say nothing of Pepper's battle career. Truffles' age hosts a plague of issues, and Hastur has a habit of disappearing for hours without telling her. Nevertheless, Mary constantly works to keep her family happy, which includes entering them into races and battle tournaments. It is dangerous, but it isn't her place to tell them no.

It is for this reason Mary continues to loiter around the café, even if she is suspicious of its morals, its motives, and its safety. She is particularly suspicious of Firenze and October, owing to the former's unusual generosity and the latter's omission of critical information during their first encounter.

She has friends and Family in Johto, but they are literally worlds away, and can do nothing for her.
